My last blog was a long one… I’m still worn out from it. I hope that you got some useful information out of the post and that it clears up some of the mystery that surrounds the term extra virgin.

Now, on to other stuff. The blending of the end blend was completed a few weeks ago. The 2009 release is now in the bottle and selling quite well at the farmers’ markets (sorry, no Internet orders this year) and direct from our tasting room. We bottled more than 20 cases of this (very) limited production olive oil, so get it while you can. Come by to see us, try the oil, then buy every bottle! We’re offering the end blend at $16 per 500ml bottle. There will be no 250ml and no gallons (sorry).

2009 Sylverleaf end blend

This year’s release starts of very smooth, with a marked green olive flavor, then it progresses to some unique tropical flavors (think banana and mango), then comes the back of the throat kick of pungency. The finish is slightly sweet with a slight hint of bitterness. The end blend is a little hotter than our normal oils, so if you like ‘em medium to intense in flavor, this oil is for you.

For those of you who are not familiar with this olive oil, it is a special blend of oils that we don’t normally use for our Sylverleaf blends. In fact, the end blend is composed of oils that we use to make other olive oils for other olive oil companies! There are always a few gallons of this oil and a few gallons of that oil and a few more gallons of another oil that we have left over. So, we put them all together and see what happens. It turns out, this produces a very tasty and unique olive oil. You just have to try it.
