December 6, 2007

It’s hard to believe that we’re nearing the end of this year!   It’s also hard to believe that harvest 101 has come and gone.  It was quite a time here at Sylverleaf for our second harvest event.  The weather was great for the 1st of December, although it was a bit chilly (the coldest day of the year!).  But that’s what the Mexican hot chocolate was for!  When all was said and done, we had about sixty attendees and we picked about 1500lbs of gorgeous olives!  That amount is almost three times more than we picked last year at the 100th Harvest.  It delighted and amazed Gene and I to see all these people out in the orchard with belly buckets (and make-shift buckets) and enthusiasm.  We had family come from Arizona, several people from the Bay area and one person drove all the way from East Washington to be here.  There was plenty of warm Spanish/Mexican food and an endless supply of sangria.  There were olive branch wreaths made, as well as new friends.  I wish to thank every one of you who gave up a Saturday to help celebrate this beautiful orchard’s bountiful harvest. We are still reeling from the experience- can’t promise that it will happen again (we say no way right now!).  But you were all terrific and once again we find out that our friends are priceless.  We hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we enjoyed having you.

My husband (and partner in crime in this business) is oddly jealous of my writings.  He has asked permission to write a few blogs, from his perspective.  I ‘m sure in the next week or so, you’ll be hearing from him.  It ought to be good.

I plan to return to the Civic Center, San Rafael farmer’s market on Thursday, December 13 with lots of Verde for sample and sale.  I’ve missed my weekly market VERY much and look forward to seeing some familiar faces and shopping for my fresh foods!
