Lawn mowing in November?

It is such a pleasure for me to mow the lawn, here at Sylverleaf. Especially when I can enjoy an absolutely gorgeous day, and even better, it’s November 2nd. I have never had my mower in use at this time of year! There’s nothing like the smell of the freshly mowed grass in the air and the immediate gratification of a perfect lawn.
I must say that this place cleans up very nicely and looks like a million bucks when it’s freshly manicured. I do have quite a bit of ground to cover (approximately 4 acres), but I don’t mind. I just get on my trusty orange Husky and off we go. I haven’t done much lawn mowing in my lifetime, but here on the farm, we have learned to share all of the chores. There are obvious jobs that are physically too challenging for me (I won’t use a chainsaw!), but everything else I attempt at least. Now, easy jobs, like lawn mowing for hours at a time, well, I’m all about that.
I never realized that cutting grass could be a full contact sport (just like orchard work!). Have you ever been strangled by an over-grown willow tree? Or attacked by Mean Mr. Mulberry tree?
My favorite part of mowing is being whipped by an olive branch with their pointy, ever so sharp leaves. Yikes!! Even though I return from mowing with fresh wounds, bee stings and a nose full of grass, I truly do take pleasure in being the Sylverleaf mowing machine. One of the best parts of a perfectly mowed lawn is that we get to set up the wicket course. Wicket is our version of croquet–with a twist. Now that is a story for another day…
